Frequently Asked Questions
Why don't I see real-time exchange rates?
Currently, this tool uses static reference rates for demonstration purposes. Real-time exchange rate APIs require ongoing subscription costs. The rates provided are for estimation purposes - always verify with official sources like banks or financial services for actual transactions.
How often do real exchange rates change?
Foreign exchange markets operate 24 hours a day on weekdays, and rates can change every second during trading hours. Major currency pairs like EUR/USD might change thousands of times per day. Our static rates are reference points from recent market data.
What's the difference between 'mid-market rate' and bank rates?
Mid-market rate is the midpoint between buy and sell rates in the forex market - it's the 'real' exchange rate. Banks and exchange services add a margin (spread) for profit, so you'll typically get a less favorable rate. Our rates are close to mid-market rates.
Why do conversion amounts sometimes differ from what banks offer?
Banks add fees and spreads on top of exchange rates. A bank might show an exchange rate of 1 USD = 1420 KRW while the mid-market rate is 1436. This difference is the bank's profit margin, which can range from 0.5% to 5% or more.
Can I trust these rates for large transactions?
Use these rates for estimation and comparison only. For large transactions (over $1000), always get quotes from multiple banks or transfer services like Wise, and compare them to the mid-market rate. The actual rate you get depends on your provider and transaction size.
